Background

I was educated at Oxford University and at West Surrey College of Art and Design. In the process, I studied History as well as painting and became increasingly aware of the unexpected connections between the two and how each can be enriched by the other. I have taught art, history and history of art and this has enriched and stimulated my own work, leading me to question ideas and working practices that otherwise I may have taken for granted.
I have exhibited widely and have been twice short-listed for the Natwest painting prize and was also twice featured in Art Review, when it was still edited by the controversial and forthright opponent of conceptual formulae, David Lee.
